Oliver Twist is a boy who has had a terrible ordeal, but this was the reality of that time. It was the author who wanted to show the reality, describing the adventures of little Oliver. The criminal world was cruel, and to escape, once there, you have to keep the rod of good inside.

"Adventures" Oliver begin with the birth: his mother dies immediately after childbirth in the workhouse. His childhood he spends on the farm Mrs. Mann, which was an analogue of the current orphanage. Next to him-the same children whose parents lost them or died. Dickens deliberately calls them "young offenders", thereby ridiculing unfair, sometimes absurd English laws, in particular the law on the poor. In nine years the boy got to work to the undertaker transit through a workhouse from which he was expelled for a request for addition of porridge.

Unable to withstand life in the undertaker, the hero of the novel decided to escape. It wasn't so much the Mr. Sowerberry, as his wife and Noah Claypole, which is particularly mocked Oliver. His escape was headed for London, Oliver knew it was a big city, hence the great opportunities. On the way to the planned point Oliver met Jack Dawkins, who later led the guy to Feigin. If up to this point, it just had zero, and now was forced to steal! Subsequently, there are other characters, such as Sykes, Monks and others. All of them do not care that it's just a small child, and no one thinks about it, but only uses for their own purposes.

However, all the vicissitudes of life honest and gentle Oliver have a happy ending. Negative characters - Sikes, Faigin, Monks - met their death ignominious death. Oliver began to live with Mr. Brownlow in peace and harmony. Of course, the final evokes pleasant and warm emotions, but looking back, we can once again make sure that the path to this final was very difficult, and even more so for a ten-year-old child. The author managed to show that planned: dirty premises, cruel acts, fear for the life, after all one careless act - and those on a guillotine.
