Let us consider what the advantages and disadvantages of two novels are: rock musical of Russian group “King and jester” - “TODD” and movie-musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”

It is different kinds of art, but both have been based on the 1973 play Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Christopher Bond. So we'll examine their differences.

Let us start by considering the opera of Russian group “King and jester” - “TODD”. The premiere was occurred on November 2012. The first thing that needs to be said is I looked it up online, not life. Well, what can I say? Let’s consider some pros and cons of it. The first thing I don’t like it too many people on stage (in the first act), it's confusing. The second - performances of songs and general sound-level is recorded. Sometimes the actors didn't get notes, sometimes the microphone didn't work etc. It was hard for me to see and to hear, because I don't like this musical style. On the other hand, we can observe that “TODD” is a very unusual show. This is a mix of opera, musical, saga, circus, ballet and rock concert. Arias and music deserve special attention. There is little talk on the stage, only individual musical sketches. All the music and arrangements are original the groups "King and jester". I especially appreciated the work of the stylist and the costumier, they have perfectly selected images and costumes for all participants of the musical. Taking into consideration all mentioned above it should be noted that “TODD” not everyone will like.

We shall now proceed to consider Tim Burton's film adaptation of "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street". Tim Burton is a director of a singular vision. It’s hard not to notice his style of film-making. Dark and foreboding, his style is unmistakable. The bloodiest musical in stage history, it now becomes the bloodiest in film history, and it isn't a jolly romp, either, but a dark revenge tragedy with heartbreak, mayhem and bloody good meat pies. "Sweeney" is not always easy to watch, but you can't turn away. Mr. Depp’s singing voice is harsh and thin, but amazingly forceful. To draw the conclusion, it should be observed that Sweeney Todd is a gorgeous looking film that is certainly handsomely mounted, but it leaves an empty feeling when it’s all said and done. With Sweeney Todd, only Burton would be capable of telling this horrific musical tale in a way that was utterly captivating.

As far as I’m concerned, I liked the movie more than the opera. One should note here that I am not a fan of Russian rock. The second reason for cast of film (I really like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter). Besides, It's a sign that I have watched this movie too many times and I really like it! One should, however, not forget that emphasize that tastes differ.
