A special dish, eaten in your family on a special day

Cake is an international family dish in all families in the world, so it is in mine. Nevertheless, this is so obvious and I am going to tell about the second traditional dish in my family.. It is tagine.

Tagine is a dish from Morocco. We interested by Morocco’s culture, so we decided to make it our family tradition. It has this name because of a special plate it is cooked in. In Morocco, people eat it nearly every day, everywhere. They can eat it even at work. They meet together and cook it, so it shows the really unity of its nation. My family eats it in the evening, when the whole family is together. They cook a big plate of meat and vegetables and eat it from one plate, all together. This procedure has one important rule: you should eat just from your side, do not try to eat a tasty peace from the other. I mean, nobody will kill you if you will not follow this rule, they will not even tell you about this, but if you want to be polite, you should follow the rules. This is very touching, so we decided to make it each our birthdays.

I do not know how to cook this dish, but my father knows. He likes cooking and tagine is his passion. He puts the whole his heart in this dish. Tagine doesn’t have any recipe, but my dad has it in his mind, he “takes it out of his heart”. In this case tagine is a really as a communication. We feel a piece of home cooking this dish. Usually we use some popular vegetables and beef to cook it. It takes a lot of time to make this tasty thing.

If one day you will come to Morocco, you should know some rules of eating tagine. You should eat this dish with your hands, using bread, but my stepmother prefers to eat it with a fork. Anyway, this is meal of unity, which suits each special occasion, and I hope you will try it one day!
