The Flag is one of the main symbols of the state that represents its sovereignty and identity. The Russian term “flag” for Flag comes from the Dutch word “Vlag” and means cloth of officially adopted size and colour and commonly with an image of emblem (coat of arms).   

The Flag of Kazakhstan was officially adopted in 1992. It was designed by Shaken Niyazbekov.

The State Flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan is a rectangular breadth of blue colour with the image of the sun in its center with a soaring steppe eagle underneath. Along the flagstaff there is a vertical band with the national ornamental patterns. The images of the sun, rays, eagle and ornament are of golden colour. The ratio of the Flag’s width to its length: 1:2.

Blue colour of the National flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan represents the unity of Turkic family group which includes: Kazakh, Tatar, Uyghur, Uzbek and other nationalities. Blue colour is also an embodiment of Tengri- The God of Heaven in Turkic religion.
In the middle of the blue flag there is a Sun represented in gold colour as well as 30 shining streams of the Sun. It shows the life, abundance and wealth of Kazakhstan. Bellow the Sun a Flying Eagle painted in Gold. Eagle is an indigenous bird of this region and describes Kazakhstan and it's strong potential in the future.
Along the left side of the Flag there is an abstract decorative knot "koshkar muyiz" which means "sheep horns". This traditional knot is a historical and traditional element of the given region.
