“Sequence of tenses in English grammar”

We talk about the past more often than it seems. Tell a friend a cool story, retell someone's words, refer to another author in an essay, talk about last weekend, vacation, or any memories — for all this, we need to know a few simple rules for matching times.

Sequence of tenses are one of the most important topics in English grammar. In order for your story or essay to be clear and consistent, we need to learn how to coordinate English tenses correctly. Changing the tense of verbs in such situations, that is, matching the time in English helps the reader understand the temporal relationships between different events, that is, imagine the sequence of actions in the story. However, inappropriate or inaccurate use of time transitions can lead to confusion. Usually, authors of written works in English and writers adhere to the same main time in the narrative, Present Simple and Past Simple. If the author needs to show a change in the time frame in his story, he changes the tense of verbs relative to the selected main time. The rule for matching tenses is that if in a complex sentence the verb of the main sentence is in one of the past tenses (most often in Past Simple), then the verb of the subordinate clause must also be in one of the past tenses or in the future in the Past. Often authors try not to switch from one time to another if two actions occur in the same time frame. For example, the old man narrates stories about the World War II to children who asked questions during his speech. But also, some stories have more than two-time frames, and the authors have to switch from one verb at one time to another to show different time frames of the two events. For example, before the bus reached the resort, many tourists had got hungry or mother is preparing additional food because the journey will last for a week

For me, this topic can be difficult to use. Sometimes I just don't understand what time I should use correctly, and sometimes I just confused using them.
