“Write about the fate of Oliver Twist”

Oliver Twist is a boy who has undergone a terrible ordeal. By describing the adventures of the character, the author tries to depict the reality of that time. Taking into account the cruelty of the criminal world, it is difficult to escape.

Oliver’s adventures begin at birth: his mother dies immediately after giving birth in a workhouse. He spends his childhood on Mrs. Mann’s farm, which is an analogue of the current orphanage. He lives there with other children whose parents have lost them or died. The author deliberately calls them young lawbreakers, thereby ridiculing unfair, sometimes absurd English laws, in particular the Poor Law. At the age of nine, the boy goes to work for the undertaker after he has been expelled from the workhouse for asking for more porridge.

Unable to stand the life of an undertaker, Oliver Twist decides to escape. It is not because of Mr. Sowerberry, but much of his wife and Noah Claypole who used to mock at him. Oliver decides to go to London offering great opportunities. On his way he meets Jack Dawkins known as the Artful Dodger, who later brings him to Fagin. Тow he is forced to steal. Other characters he meets, such as Bill Sikes, Monks and others, pay no attention to the fact that he is just a small child, and no one thinks about him. They just use him for their own purposes.

However, all the twists and turns of life of an honest and gentle boy have a happy end. Negative characters die and Oliver begins to live with Mr. Brownlow in peace and harmony. Though the end of the novel evokes pleasant and warm emotions, the way to it is quite complicated, especially for a ten-year-old child. The author shows dirty premises, cruelty, fear for life, as one careless action may lead to a guillotine. Thus, the fate of Oliver Twist is full of adventures, sufferings and happiness awaiting him at the end, but his life is useful for society, since it shows that a luxurious life of a thief is an invention, while hard work and one’s inner kindness is the only way to real success.
