Do you like the story “The Creative Impulse”? Why?

The short story “The Creative Impulse” is written by W.S. Maugham to portray English reality and mock at its imperfection. I should say that this is one of the funniest stories I’ve ever read. I like it very much, since it is full of humorous situations that help describe people’s nature. For instance, Mrs. Forrester, the main character, is interested in politics, but is not able to choose one the parties which sounds strange and seems ridiculous. She is one of the characters representing English society who is not afraid of losing her husband, but does not want to lose money he gives her, since the books she writes do not help earn for living and organizing her parties. Considering her status, she even does not want to fight with the cook for her husband, but money matters make her change her mind. So this is the only reason she decides to bring him back home. However, her husband is not that simple, as he encourages her to focus on writing detective stories and even offers some ideas to start with. At first, she is frustrated and angry with him, because he does not want to return and laughs at her literary works, but later on the tram stop she sees a man like the character offered by her husband who goes to the dark Hyde Park. This makes her change her position and consider a possibility of writing a detective story featuring a man murdered in the park, even though she knows nothing about it and has not even read one. As a result, the detective story entitled “The Archilles Statue” was written, but remained undiscovered by ordinary readers. Though it gained popularity among the critics praising her talent, Mrs. Forrester’s books did not sell.

if nothing has happened.
