Was the major brave? Why do you think so?

Ernest Hemingway was one of the greatest American writers of his age. His entire life was connected with the war. Ernest Hemingway always tried to contribute to the fight against war, he was a correspondent, helped financially and worked in the newspaper. Many of his short stories were connected with the war, some of them the author showed the disappointment of young people in the post-war period.

The story "In Another Country" tells about a young man who is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Italy. He has a foot injury, and he cannot bend her, and during one of the procedures he met with the mayor, who has similar problems with the hand. Major ironic about his possible recovery, so he asks the doctor about whether he is again to play football, although the problem is not in the leg. Before the war he was the greatest fencer in Italy. The doctor brought him pictures of people before and after recovery, but even then the major has not increased confidence in the recovery.

The major did not believe in bravery. So he spent much time while they sat in the machines correcting the grammar of the narrator. The major came to the hospital very regularly, though the narrator was sure that he did not believe in the machine. One day he asked a young boy about his fate. The narrator planned to return to the States and get married. After his words, the major was pissed, called the guy a fool and said that he cannot marry because he may lose everything. Reassured, the major told that he just lost his wife. He was very hard and he cried, looking to nowhere. After his departure the doctor told me that major had married her when he was finally invalided out of the war, but then she died from pneumonia.

This story is very hard. It describes all the realities of human lives, their fate, without embellishment, their grief, in no way embellished. Major did not believe in bravery, but he was brave. Yes, he lost someone he loved, and lost faith in everything, but we all have something to lose, but we always gain it again.
