My favourite cameraman.

For my essay I choose famous and really talanted cameraman of USSR and later of Russia – Georgi Ivanovich Rerberg.

Georgi Ivanovich was dorn 28 of September in 1937. All of his family was vary talanted. His father – Ivan Fedorovich was an artist, his mother – Galina Semenovna was an cellist, and his grandpa – Semen Motveevich was an cellist too.

Rerderg has been grown in atmosphere full of art and culture and forming his own taste in that sphere from an early age.

Like other Russia famous cameramen, he was studing in VGIK, and finished it. He's starts working in cinemastudio «Mosfilm». Here he made his debute work – «First teacher», and iven in this film we can see the features of his stile.

Rerberg wasn't a documentalist, but his movi stile looks similar as documentary. He's prety liked a clear composition and strict of picture.

The second his work with long name:»The story about Asya Klachina, who loved, but never married.» was released only twenty years later of making, becouse of censure. Later he made a new film with Andrei Konchalovsky – «Uncle Vanya».

Then Rerberg start working with vary famous and really classy film director – Andrey Tarkovsky. And in that period Georgi Ivanovich opened for himself the beauty of landscapes and portraits. In film «Mirror» he used the changes of coloured frames and black and white frames.

During the filming of «Stalker» between Rerberg and Tarkovsky happened a conflict situation arose because of the corrupted film «Kodak», on which the film was shot. At the request of the director, Rerberg was suspended from filming, almost the entire film was re-shot by new cameraman A.Knyazhinsky. The documentary tape by Igor Mayboroda tells about this conflict. The reverse side of the “Stalker” (2008).

At the Venice Film Festival in 1981, Rerberg was awarded a special mention by the jury for his work in the film “Starfall,” directed by Igor Talankin.

After conflict with Tarkovsky, Rerberg was really upset, he stoped his work on the big projeckts and just desapeare from big cinematography.

He died in 1999 from a heart breake. His work are become classical for every caneramen now.
