Was Julia happy in marriage? How did her relationships with Michael change in course of time?

Julia met her future husband at the Langdon Theater. At first Julia could not tell if Michael even knew that she was in love with him and later she had a true passion and love towards him. When she became his wife she started to see his pettiness, greed and prudence and realized that he wasn’t as perfect as she used to think.

So they became more likely good business partners than spouses. She played all the main roles in the theatre which was owned by Michael. Her fame opened door into the world of high society and aristocracy. Throughout the novel readers can see that she’s quite happy with her life: she is talented, she has a reliable spouse, lots of people, who love her as an actress, a good son. After all alongside becoming famous and rich, the heroine just wanted to be truly loved.

During all the following years, Julia successfully played before Michael the role of a true loving wife, mainly because as a husband and director, he pretty satisfied her. Michael was disappointed in himself as an actor, so he put effort in Julia. I need to mention that he did not take an interest in his wife's feelings so much that he calmly reacted to the termination of sexual relations with her after several years of marriage. Moreover, he believed that Julia, after the birth of their son, has no sexual desire at all.

When she met Tom, she felt in love with him. She passionately loved him, but she realized as well that he was just a seeker for money and fame. When Tom felt in love with a much younger actress Evis Crichton and tried with Julia's help to arrange her role in the new play, Julia decided that it was enough.
